This is a profound commitment to establishing new relationships embedded in mutual recognition and respect that will forge a brighter future. These CTAs focus on several major areas, including children and youth, languages <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u200b\u200b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and cultures, health, justice, history, commemoration and reconciliation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A week before these inquiry results were published, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Beverly McLachlin, stated that Indigenous peoples had been victims of cultural genocide: \u201cIn the buzzword of the day, assimilation; in the language of the 21<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">st<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Century, cultural genocide.\u201d (Radio-Canada, 2015)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The TRC put reconciliation on the public agenda. The country was devastated by the true history of the residential schools.
